What is the difference between RTW (Ready To Wear) and HAUTE COUTURE? AQUILANO.RIMONDI
(A question I'm often asked in the course of my lectures - and travels). RTW is defined as "off the rack"/ "ready-made'; HAUTE COUTURE is French for " high sewing"/ "high dressmaking" and is commonly understood to be "the creation of exclusive custom-fitted fashions." (When you see uneven hemlines in Couture - get ready for longer skirt lengths in RTW!)
Step #1 You canNOT be "Haute" without being creative!
Step #2 if you're NOT creative - call Suzie - she'll make you HAUTE!
Open up those closet doors once again . . . close your eyes and pull out one garment . . . what would you add or subtract to make you want to wear it for another year?
Would a denim collar on your sheer, flowered blouse make it more interesting, more wearable, "haute"?
Would an old blouse be more fun if the ruffles and cuffs were removed and sewed onto a dress you wore when you had a job?
Would last year's jeans look "springy" if you cropped them?
If you answered "YES" to all of the above you are HAUTE!
DO YOU BELONG TO A BOOK CLUB?
If you read Suzie's Book: "Suzie Woodward Morris' Wardrobe Strategy" - instead of just discussing the topic. . .have each book club member bring a garment he or she is ready to get-rid-of . . .exchange it with a friend to "re-fashion" and return it to the owner at the next meeting all "renewed"!
To feed your creative mind visit style.com and view your favorite designer . . . copy something you think is "YOU" and learn how to be HAUTE!
Invite Suzie to speak at your event . . . host a book club an experience you're friends will never forget or regret! 415.260.1485
